Hey everybody! Today we’re making the Chocolate Strawberry Protein Smoothie. I have been saving this recipe all week! If you are new, welcome to our video series. Feel free to put your name and where you’re watching from in the comments below and let me know how excited you are about strawberries season! For those who don’t know, I’m Jenna and I’m the founder of GreenBlender and GreenBlender is a smoothie delivery service. Every week we send all the pre-portioned ingredients and superfoods to make amazing smoothies at home. And every day we make one of those smoothies right here with you and we get to talk about fun ingredients! And I am tickled pink -or red that strawberries are back in season! Strawberries are actually one of the first fruits to become ripe in spring! That’s why you’re starting to see them pop up all over the place. They’re the only fruits to actually have more than one seed on the outside of the flesh. A strawberry, on average, has about 200 seeds… woops! Its jumping out in my hands -200 seeds on the outside. Strawberries are part of the rose family. So, if you’re in a strawberry patch, you might notice that it has flowers that smells really delicious. The average American eats about three and a half pounds of fresh strawberries every year! And over half of all nine year olds pick strawberries as their favorite fruit, which is a great thing because it’s low in calories, high in vitamin C, B-6, and fiber. Romans actually thought strawberries or use strawberries for medicinal purposes. And they thought that strawberries could cure anything from depression, to bad breath, to bouts of fainting. I’m not sure about that, but they definitely have a lot of great health properties and great nutrients in it! California actually produces about 80 percent of all the strawberries grown in the United States. They produce 2 billion pounds of strawberries a year – billion with a “B”! And every state in the U.S. and all the provinces of Canada, actually produce their own strawberries as well. I think that’s about it… I am really excited about it and hopefully you guys are as excited about it as I am! When you’re getting strawberries make sure to kind of keep the longevity of the strawberry. Don’t rinse them until you’re ready to eat them, or else they’ll start to go bad faster. The other thing that I want to know is… a little bit smoothie hacks… is that since we’re working with organic strawberries, you don’t have to take the tops off of the strawberries. You can throw the whole thing in, greens and all. Add a little extra green to your day and you won’t waste any part of the strawberry. So, try it out; let me know what you think, and if you’ve ever blended the whole strawberry in a smoothie before. So, what else is in this awesome decadent smoothie? We’re going to do two bananas, about a handful or a cup of strawberries, a tablespoon of cacao, and a tablespoon of pea protein, and some water and some ice now. If you’re looking to make this more like a strawberry milkshake, feel free to put the bananas in the freezer and freeze them because that will make it really thick and creamy and delicious! If you are looking to reduce your sugar intake, I would suggest using half -or using just one banana and swapping the other banana out for yellow squash. It’ll not, of course, be as sweet, but it will reduce the sugar content quite bit. So, I’m going to throw in these beautiful strawberries and cut them in half, so they don’t get caught up in the blades. Oh my gosh! They’re so pretty; look at this! I just love… I just love strawberries. I’m so excited for them! I think I read that the average American eats about three and a half pounds of strawberries a year, but I have to eat more than that. I mean, come on, that seems a little on the low side for me. Alright, cacao… here we go, secret ingredient. Its like a chocolate-covered strawberry milkshake, so good. You can always add more cacao, if you like extra chocolate. Let’s blend this up! Look at this …chocolate milkshake! Alright, let’s give this a go! Oh my gosh, I’m so excited. It’s like chocolate for breakfast, so good. I mean, how could it not be good? Tastes like a chocolate and strawberry milkshake! This smoothie is going to give you a lot of energy. It’s going to help make your skin glow and be radiant and it’s, of course, high in protein because we used that protein -the pea protein powder. So, let me know what you think of this smoothie in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you and I would love to hear your favorite strawberry recipes! Until tomorrow, enjoy!
