How to Make Homemade Hoagie Rolls | The Stay At Home Chef

Today on The Stay At Home Chef I’m showing
you how to make Homemade Hoagie Rolls I love making homemade bread! My family is so spoiled because the bread
that I make is better than you can buy in almost any grocery
store Today I’m showing you how to make homemade hoagie rolls so that you can make
the best sandwich ever. To start you’ll need 1 cup of warm milk and you want that milk to be just warm to
the touch Then we’ll add in 1 tablespoon of yeast I like to use instant yeast because no proofing
is required If you’re using another kind of yeast you
may need to proof this for ten minutes Sprinkle that in with the warm milk Then add in 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt Now a question that I frequently get is: “Doesn’t salt kill yeast?” The answer to that question is no What salt does is slow down the growth of
yeast so it’s important that you have the right
balance of yeast to salt Now if you’re letting it proof this is where
you’d let it sit for ten minutes but we don’t need
to since we’re using instant yeast So I’ll add in one egg and 3 tablespoons of softened butter Next you’ll need 3 to 3 1/2 cups of either
all-purpose or bread flour Start by adding in just 3 cups of flour and then if you need that extra half cup we
can add it in later Then we’ll get this mixing The amount of flour you need when making bread always varies just a little bit depending
on things like how accurately you measure your ingredients and things like the weather Your dough should be able to pull away from
the sides of the bowl and not stick You want your dough to be tacky to the touch
but not sticky Then spray a large mixing bowl with a little
nonstick cooking spray Then we’re going to take our dough I like to turn it over a little bit so it
gets greased on the outside set it in there, we’ll cover it with a towel and let it rise until double in size which
will take about 1 hour After an hour we’ll take our dough and turn it out onto a clean surface Then we’re going to take a rolling pin and roll it into a large rectangle You want the dough to be about 1/4 inch thick and you want the rectangle to be about 24
inches wide A trick that I like to use for measurements
is to use a piece of paper. A standard piece of paper is 8.5 x 11 inches So for 24 inches I know my dough needs to
be slightly wider than 2 pieces of paper and if we go this way it’s about 12 inches
so slightly longer than the piece of paper It is very useful to print your recipes Then we’re going to cut this all into 4 pieces so we’ll slice it down the middle in half
with a butter knife and then slice each of those halves in half
as well This recipe makes 4 hoagie rolls but it can easily be doubled or tripled Then you want to roll it up tightly lengthwise Then we’ll pinch the ends and then roll it
back and forth to seal it all together Once you get them all rolled out we’re going
to lay them out onto a lightly greased baking sheet Just place them down and cover it with a towel
again And let these rise for another 30 minutes While they’re rising, preheat your oven to
375 degrees Farhenheit After 30 minutes you want to take a sharp
knife and just slash the top a little bit You only want the knife tip to go in about
1/8th of an inch Then we’re ready to bake these in the 375
degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until they’re lightly browned on top Let them cool completely and then you’re ready to slice them and make a sandwich Thanks for watching! You can find the full written recipe in the
