DeWALT Grinder Repair – Replacing the Gear Case (DeWALT Part # 629447-07SV)

“The gear case consists of the gear case itself,
the spindle gear, bearing, and spindle, already assembled, and the spindle block. Common issues with the gear case are, a worn
spindle gear, damaged threads on the spindle, a bad spindle bearing or a cracked housing. Replacing the gear case is a repair that you
can do yourself and I’m going to show you how. Hi, I’m Mark Sodja. Do-it-yourself repairs like these are easier
than you might think. From lawn machines to cordless drills, kitchen
mixers, outdoor grills. Our how-to videos walk you through each repair
from start to finish. So doing it yourself means never having to
do it alone. Let’s get started. I’ll begin by removing the side handle and
the guard from the grinder. Next, I’ll remove the cover from the top of
the gear case. Now remove the four screws that secure the
gear case to the rest of the grinder. With the screws removed, now I can separate
the gear case from the motor. Now remove the lower flange from the spindle. It’s held in place with an O-ring, the easiest
way to remove it is to pry it off with a couple of screwdrivers. Now I can install the new gearbox. First, I’ll apply a small amount of grease
to the teeth on the spindle gear. It doesn’t take much. That will work itself in when the grinder’s
turned on. Now install the gearbox back onto the motor and secure it with the screws. Now replace the gearbox cover. Make sure the seal is in place, then place
it back on top of the gearbox and secure it with the screws. Now I’ll reinstall the inner flange. I push it over the O-ring, then I’ll lock
the spindle and twist it until it engages with the hub beneath it. I’ll finish up by replacing the guard and
side handle. Now you know how to install a new gear case
on your grinder. Be sure to check back often for new videos
